  1. There’s a really good segment on the Transformers episode of The Toys that made Us where Peter Cullen explains the origins of Optimus Prime’s voice that was actually quite emotional and made me tear up a bit. The voice was not based on, but inspired by his older brother, who came back from the Vietnam war with PTSD. Cullen greatly admired his brother, who was very stoic and didn’t always express his emotions. When Cullen told him about the audition and how he wasn’t sure how to approach the character, his brother told him (paraphrasing): “Don’t act like the hero. Just be the hero by doing the right thing.”
