  1. Listening to this episode, I was reminded of a story. My Aunt (author Judith Rose, if I can give her a plug) went to college with Weird Al, and quite possibly was the first person to get the ball rolling on his famous nickname!

    Both of them were in some sort of theatre class (or possibly the forensics team- I’m vague because it’s been a few years since I’ve heard her recount it), and if her account is correct, he was quite the wild spaz. Oddball ad libs, extreme emotionality to scenes that didn’t require it, that sort of thing,

    There were two Al’s in this class, and one day, my aunt, tired, frustrated, overworked, and just fed the fuck up with his antics, asked a classmate, “where’s Al?” To which the classmate replied, “which one?” “Oh, you know, the weird one.”

    And thus a legend was born.

    Can’t get enough of this show. Finally bit the bullet and joined the Patreon 😊🤘

  2. For some reason I went to see the Astroboy movie in theatres, and was shocked at how mature it was. A scientist’s son dies, and in his grief builds a robot version to replace him. VERY soon after, he realizes what a horrible mistake it was, and throws this sentiment robot child into the dump while it’s calling out for its father, wondering why he’s doing this to him.
    It then turns into a coming of age story where he learns his place in the world, as a robot, and how robots are horribly mistreated and taken advantage of.

    I’ve been meaning to go back and rewatch it, to see if it’s as mature as I remember, or if it was just a result of low expectations, but it left an impression on me walking out of the theater.
