Games of the Decade, Part 1 – Vidjagame Apocalypse 349

This isn’t just our first show of the new year – it’s our first show of a new decade! With that in mind, let’s jump on the 2010s nostalgiawagon and count down our top 25 games of the previous decade, five games at a time. With TL Foster along to pass judgment, join us as we embark on a multi-episode series of Top 5s personally selected by each host (starting with Mikel’s picks this week), eventually leading up to our definitive 10 games of the 2010s. And while we build toward that, let’s take a look at some of your favorite games of 2019!

  1. QotW: the game I’m looking forward to most (that is likely to come out in 2020) is Psychonauts 2. Love the first game and looking for a quality platformer after some recent disappointments.

  2. My heart says I’m most looking forward to the Final Fantasy VII remake, since the original was such a huge part of my teenage years. That game meant a lot to me. BUT. My brain can’t stop thinking about how excited I am for Cyberpunk 2077. Being huge into the tabletop game for years, I can’t deny my immeasurable excitement for this one!

  3. Skyrim got me back into gaming, after nearly a decade of neglect. My current computer couldn’t quit handle it, so I bought the first console since my parents used to buy them for me. My gf was so fucking done with dragons by the time I eventually stopped playing.

  4. QOTW: I’m gonna be the odd one out and say Guilty Gear: Strive. ArcSys consistently makes the most gorgeous, feature rich fighting games. As a fighting game convert, a friend had to drill Street Fighter 4 into my head for me to finally embrace the genre. I sucked until I didn’t, and now the hypest shit ever is a close match w a friend on the couch. And Guilty Gear is unlike any other fighter, and the best 2D via 3D animation I’ve ever seen.

  5. QOTW: I know there’s gonna be some stellar single player games this year, RE3Make, Last Of Us 2, but I can’t help but dying to play Guilty Gear: Strive. Since I adapted to fighting games, I can’t wait to see what ArcSys do next.
